Toronto is kicking off July under an intense heat wave, following a humid and unsettled June. Forecasts for the first week of the month point to a significant rise in temperatures, paired with high humidity levels and a risk of isolated thunderstorms, especially heading into the weekend.
Hot Wednesday with very high UV levels
This morning, temperatures in the Toronto area are expected to hover around 25°C (77°F) and gradually rise as the day progresses. By early afternoon, the thermometer will reach 30°C (86°F), but with the humidex, it will feel like 34°C (93°F). The UV index is forecast to hit 9, categorized as “very high”, according to Environment Canada.
There’s also a slight chance of scattered showers later in the day during the evening commute.
Slight cooldown Thursday but humidity lingers
On Thursday, daytime highs will briefly ease to around 27°C (81°F) with a mix of sun and cloud. However, persistent humidity will push the perceived temperature to 31°C (88°F) during peak hours.
Milder Friday, but heat returns quickly
Friday is expected to bring clear skies and more seasonal conditions, with a daytime high of 26°C (79°F). Still, the break will be short-lived.
Scorching weekend with peak humidex on Sunday
The weekend forecast points to intense heat and sticky air. On Saturday, temperatures will rise to 30°C (86°F), while the humidex will make it feel more like 37°C (99°F). There remains a slight chance of showers, particularly late in the day.
Sunday is shaping up to be the hottest and most humid day of the week. The daytime high will reach 31°C (88°F), but with the humidex, it will feel closer to a stifling 38°C (100°F). The chance of rain remains low, but the atmosphere will be heavy and saturated with humidity.
