Wednesday, July 3, the intense heat has returned to the Toronto area. Environment Canada is forecasting a high of 30 °C (86 °F), but humidity will make it feel more like 35 °C (95 °F), due to an elevated humidex.

The day began under clear skies, with a very high UV index, expected to reach level 9 by 1:00 p.m., which the federal weather agency classifies as “very high.”

By around noon, cloud cover is expected to increase, bringing a 30 per cent chance of showers later in the day, along with a potential risk of thunderstorms into the evening.

Temperatures will drop slightly on Thursday and Friday, with forecasted highs of 27 °C (81 °F) and 26 °C (79 °F), but hot and humid conditions are expected to return by the weekend. On both Saturday, July 6 and Sunday, July 7, temperatures could once again reach 30 °C (86 °F), with a 30 per cent chance of rain each day.

According to CP24 meteorologist Bill Coulter, “The weekend will bring some steamy weather with highs in the low 30s, feeling like the upper 30s.”

On Tuesday, July 2, Toronto already experienced a daytime high of 30 °C (86 °F), but with mostly cloudy skies and high humidity, the temperature felt more like 37 °C (99 °F) at certain points in the afternoon.

Just last week, the city broke a 10-year heat record, as the mercury climbed to 36 °C (97 °F)—the highest temperature recorded for this time of year in over a decade.
